What You’ll Be Doing Here

  • Implement and further develop BSc and MSc courses in the areas of forest process engineering (ground-based and rope-based methods), labour science and forest access development, forest infrastructure and digitalisation in sustainable forest management
  • Acquire, manage and implement research and service projects as well as training measures in the areas of expertise (efficient timber harvesting methods, optimisation of forestry and timber industry value creation networks, digital forest management and transformation)
  • Represent the department and its specialist areas, both internally and externally
  • Participate in interdisciplinary working groups at the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences (HAFL) and in other bodies at Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH)
  • Marketing for the forest science degree programmes (BSc and MSc programmes)
  • Involvement in the new BSc degree programme in Environmental and Resource Management
  • Supervise term papers, BSc and MSc theses and assist and advise students in their independent studies

What You’ll Bring With You

  • Third-level degree in forest engineering (university/Federal Institute of Technology ETH/ university of applied sciences) or equivalent qualification
  • Doctorate in one of the fields of expertise described above (completed or in progress)
  • Specialist knowledge in modelling and data processing
  • Sound technical knowledge in forest process engineering with a focus on timber harvesting, labour science, forest access development, logistics, supply chain management, digitalisation
  • Several years of research and practical experience in a national and international context with a good network in research and practice in the relevant field
  • High level of aptitude with regard to the management and motivation of staff in a university environment
  • Good knowledge of English and one of the national languages (German or French) or willingness to learn them
  • The title of Professor may be used if the requirements set out in the BFH staff regulations are met
