Contract duration: 11th March to 3rd November 2024
Hours: Flexible daytime hours working weekdays, weekends, public holidays. Shifts are either 6 or 7 hours per day.
Interviews will be held on Monday 5th February 2024 with a start date of 11th March 2024
What it’s like to work here
Lydford Gorge is home to a temperate rainforest, luxuriantly green and humid. The enveloping trees and high rocky crags with sounds of bird calls, dripping water and the gurgling river. Visit the 30m-high Whitelady Waterfall or descend into the Devil’s Cauldron pothole on a platform over the river.
Reporting to the Welcome Manager, you’ll be part of a team of eight Welcome & Service Assistants and volunteers working at Lydford Gorge, to help deliver exceptional service to our visitors.
You’ll help grow support for our property and the wider organisation. You’ll be focussed on great service, growing supporter loyalty and looking after our supporters who come and enjoy Lydford Gorge.

What you’ll be doing
As the largest conservation charity in Europe we work hard to raise funds, so that we can continue to care for all the heritage in our trust. Visitors are a vital part of what we do, so you’ll be responsible for ensuring that you provide an excellent service to all our visitors, every day.
As a Welcome & Service Assistant, you’ll be the first face our visitors see and it’s your role to ensure that the welcome our visitors receive is perfect, setting them up for an amazing experience for the rest of their day and ensuring they get the most out of it. This could include recommending walks, discussing membership options including the value and importance of being a member of the National Trust and all the benefits this provides. Promoting our second-hand bookshop and providing guidance to users of the powered mobility vehicle.
You’ll deliver good standards of presentation in the Welcome area, which include checking our signage, litter-picking and emptying litter bins. You’ll also ensure all our communications with our visitors are clear and consistent.
