Make-A-Wish® New Jersey, creating life-changing wishes for children battling critical illnesses in the Garden State with the belief that a wish experience can be a game-changer, seeks a full-time Director of Volunteer Programs to join our team at our Monroe Township, NJ castle facility. Job Summary: Reporting to the Vice President of Mission Delivery, the Director of Volunteer Programs is responsible for overseeing all aspects of volunteer involvement and engagement. Major responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Design and implement a plan to recruit new volunteers.

• Responsible for the intake process by which volunteers become involved from application to placement.

• Assign volunteer teams to wishes/wish assists, communicate assignments, and wish determinations to assigned volunteers.

• Oversee all background checks, filing, and following up with prospective candidates.

• Develop and lead New Volunteer Training sessions, as well as, Volunteer Continuing Education Training sessions, including a virtual training program.

• Give ongoing attention to the recruitment, retention, and recognition of our volunteers.

• Supervise and support staff members such as Volunteer Coordinator and Program Services Assistants that support the Volunteer Program; as well as intern(s), and office and Wishing Place volunteers.

• Provide written record of all communications for each wish (telephone calls to volunteers or wish families, emails, follow-up, etc.) in our Salesforce database in real time.

• Maintain volunteer records to ensure integrity of volunteer data electronically.

• Ensure accuracy, confidentiality and security of all required reports and documentation for volunteers, as directed by chapter and national procedures.

• Develop content for weekly volunteer email and social media posts.

• Attend webinars, engage in peer-to-peer support across other chapters for best practices, and utilize resources from Make-A-Wish America regarding the Wish Journey and Volunteer Engagement.

• Focus on Community Outreach to increase visibility and education about Make-A-Wish NJ.

• Understand the wish granting process to be able to coordinate all aspects of a wish when support is needed to grant every eligible child’s wish in a timely manner.

General:

• Represent Make-A-Wish® New Jersey at annual events; work as a liaison and support figure for volunteers and wish families who are in attendance.

• Maintain sensitivity and confidentiality to volunteers, and wish families being served by the Foundation.

• Adhere to all Make-A-Wish® America/Make-A-Wish® New Jersey performance standards and policies.

• Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills, Abilities and Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree required.

• 2-4+ years of volunteer management experience in the social services or nonprofit sector.

• Fluency in Spanish, a plus.

• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.

• Highly professional demeanor, able to work successfully with a wide variety of constituents including donors, board members, Make-A-Wish America national staff and vendors.

• Provide excellent customer service and representation of Make-A-Wish to external supporters and all wish families.

• Flair for cultivating and stewarding professional relationships with potential and current volunteers.

• Able to successfully work in, motivate, and support a collaborative, team-oriented organization.

• Commitment to and a passion for the mission of Make-A-Wish New Jersey.

• Confidentiality and personal integrity are essential.

• Experience with developing and implementing creative solutions to time sensitive work.

• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and database management (preferably Salesforce).

• Self -motivated, creative, problem-solving team player with excellent organization and interpersonal skills required. Confident, polished, and professional presentation and communication skills.

• Flexibility with hours for night/weekend planned events.

• Must pass background check.
