Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund seek a curious and solutions-oriented Data and Research Specialist. This job reports to the Associate Director, Infrastructure and Reporting in the Organizing, Engagement, and Campaigns (OEC) team of PPFA and is tied to the 2024 Election Cycle. The Data, Analytics, and Research Team provides strategic, data-driven guidance to OEC and the Policy, Campaigns, and Advocacy division and supports the critical work of the Federation, Action Fund, Votes, and local Planned Parenthood organizations to conduct equitable, efficient, and effective campaigns.

This role is expected to begin in December 2023 and end in December 2024.

Purpose:

The Data and Research Specialist will provide critical additional support and training capacity to the Data, Analytics, and Research Team (DART), including interfacing with affiliate and federation staff on tools support and coaching, throughout the 2024 cycle. This role will also support the development of candidate research and electoral research. This role is responsible for solving non-routine and varied use cases and providing end-user support and training on all Federation systems. This role will provide clear and user-friendly communication, prompt and thorough technical support, strategic guidance, and best practices to Planned Parenthood EveryAction VAN and Hustle users through the help desk ticketing system, documentation, and regular virtual training sessions.

Engagement:

  • Provide timely, comprehensive support and training to 5,000+ affiliate organizing and data staff on data management systems, field data management best practices, and targeting, including tool VAN, EveryAction, P2P Texting, and Tableau Reports
  • Support the development of research books and research agenda
  • Provide training as needed to Federation program staff on best practices for using data and field tools
  • Collaborate with vendors and consultants to implement field programs in an organized fashion, including pulling counts and lists, developing experiments, and developing summary materials to explain outcomes and lessons learned

Delivery:

  • Provide additional support and triage for the internal ticket management system used for support cases relating to PPFA’s organizing and supporter management tools EveryAction, VAN, and Hustle. Manage user engagement and proactive communications
  • Develop robust technical support and training procedures and processes on tool and data use, best practices, and new features, especially for Federation staff. Provide ongoing training and support via online support desk cases, written documentation, live and filmed webinars, and additional meetings and trainings.
  • Administer affiliate and national staff accounts as needed on data management systems
  • Assist with the development and project support for candidate and advocacy research
  • Assist with synchronization of digital and field data platforms
  • Prioritize data equity across trainings and partnerships

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • 2-3 years of progressively responsible professional experience is required
  • Experience as a high-level user in VAN or VoteBuilder is required
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational ability is required
  • A self-starter who can own and bring projects to completion is required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills is required
  • Flexibility to learn new skills and adapt to changing technology is required
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Planned Parenthood is required
  • Intermediate knowledge of Advanced Microsoft Excel or other Spreadsheet software is required
  • Experience working with advocacy or electoral campaign data tools in a professional setting is preferred
  • Experience managing user support or customer service via support tickets preferred
  • A commitment to customer service and problem-solving as goals in-and-of themselves are preferred

Travel: 0-25% domestic

$65,000 – $68,000 a year
