Key Relationships: People and Culture team, Managers, staff and associates across ARTICLE 19,
Focal points in regional offices and affiliates.
Contract: Permanent
Working Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours a week
Salary: £44,650 gross per annum
Location: London, UK (Article 19 is a flexible employer and encourages a hybrid working environment. The frequency of time in attending the office and working from home is to be agreed with the successful candidate).

Your contribution to the team
Your role as International People and Culture Business Partner will drive HR excellence across Article 19 whilst embracing our values in all that you do. You will strengthen people capability and enable staff to do the work they care about the most. You will possess in depth understanding of teams and regions and bring about change, improvements and solutions by combining your HR expertise with overall business knowledge. As a solutions focused business partner you will help achieve team goals and be the first point of contact for the team and region you manage from end to end, thus strengthening teams through cross matrix working.
You will provide operational support across the employee life cycle appropriate to country context and shape best practice for people management that reflect our values.
Working collaboratively with the P&C team you will embrace continuous improvement of systems, policies and practices across ARTICLE 19 with an opportunity to participate in and lead on values based initiatives.

What you can expect in a typical day
Communications, Advice, Coaching and HR Support
You will serve as a trusted partner, coaching staff and managers and providing them with advice and guidance on all aspects of the employee life cycle. You will also:
- Build and maintain meaningful relationships and regular communications with key stakeholders
- Establish strong relationships with focal points in regional offices and affiliates to buiild capacity and support the implementation of people policies and practices appropriate to the country context.
- Develop people plans and deliver projects in line with a consistent approach to people management whilst responding to complexities and challenges
- Keep up to date with UK and international (Article 19 region specific) employment law developments to ensure compliance and support focal points in the interpretation and application of local labour law.
ER Management – Case work, Resolution, Restructure, Performance Management
You will be the first point of contact in developing people solutions across the full employment relations spectrum whilst ensuring staff feel heard, respected and supported in a safe space and maintaining confidentiality. You will also:
- Proactively respond to queries or concerns, promote early resolution, advise managers and ensure compliance with policies and procedures and employment legislation.
- Lead and resolve employee relations cases including dispute resolutions, disciplinaries, grievances, performance issues, and redundancy in compliance with local labour laws and in-line with our brand.
- Drive and own the performance management process through regular communication and briefings, sharing tools and reporting on KPI’s. Follow-up with managers and teams to identify learning needs and development solutions for these plans.
Recruitment, Induction and Onboarding
You will lead and guide hiring managers on all recruitment activities including:
- Drive best practice recruitment and foster strong understanding of DEI practices
- Lead on advice and guidance including training on tools and regular briefings
- Develop and shape a robust onboarding process in line with regional/local practices
Policy and Procedures
You will be instrumental in shaping and delivering policies and procedures with the team, ensuring they are fit for purpose and compliant with local labour law. You will also:
- Bring P&C policies, practices and procedures to life, helping to create and shape our culture
- Work closely with the P&C team with research, preparing of drafts, co-ordination of the consultation process and communication activities to support implementation of policies.
Other duties
- All staff cover for each other during leave or if someone is out sick. This means you may have to occasionally take on tasks outside the normal scope of your job.
- You may be required to step in and provide support on other HR tasks. This doesn’t happen often but if it does, it’s all hands on deck.
What you will bring to the Role
Knowledge and Skills
- You will be CIPD qualified, working towards a qualification or come equipped with relevant experience.
- Be up to date with knowledge of employment law and HR best practice in the UK. Working knowledge of employment law in Europe, North America, Asia will be an advantage but not essential
- Proven ability to develop strong relationships and solutions focused
- Coaching and listening skills, underpinned by a collaborative and supportive style of working.
- Strong influencer, ability to consult with a diverse group of people.
- Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English and one other ARTICLE 19 language is desirable (Arabic, Bangla, French, Spanish and Portuguese).
Experience
- Experience of providing advice and support to managers and focal points in multiple countries on a range of people issues, some with complexities
- Demonstrable skill of developing and maintaining positive employee relations including supporting people through change, emerging employee issues, grievance, disciplinary and conflict resolution.
- Strong experience in all aspects of recruitment, induction, performance management and personal development.
- Experience of delivering training/briefing sessions on good practice.
- Experience in the development and implementation of People and Culture policies and practices.
- Demonstrable skill of working in a multi-cultural work environment and with a commitment to non-discrimination and equal opportunities.
Other
- Knowledge and/or experience of working for a human rights organisation will be an advantage.
- Commitment to work with our vision, mission, core values and objectives.
- This role may be required to travel to regions where we operate
