Casual Driver

The overall purpose of this engagement is to support the AKF Kampala Country Office team to function efficiently and effectively in delivering services through transportation. The drivers shall be employed on a casual basis and work cooperatively with all members at the office. The drivers will ensure that vehicles are operated and maintained according to AKF Policies and Procedures. They will report to the Office Assistant, Kampala.

Specific roles and responsibilities

  • Transportation of organization authorized officials and persons, and materials to specified destinations.
  • Perform routine vehicle maintenance to ensure that the vehicles are in neat and clean conditions. Identify and report and non-routine problems or malfunctioning vehicles.
  • Conform to all traffic laws and regulations governing the operation of applicable to motorized transport in Uganda.
  • Ensure the security of the vehicle and keep accurate systematic log of journeys made, distances covered and odometer readings in respect of vehicle service and fuel refills.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time including but not limited to receiving and delivery of mail and packages.

Skills and qualifications

  • Good communication skills and ability to read and write.
  • Ability to follow routine (both written and verbal instructions).
  • Knowledge of requirements and standards related to the safe and efficient operation of motor vehicles.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations and AKF policy governing the operation of applicable vehicles for the transportation of human and non-human cargo in Uganda.
  • Familiarity with Central region and various upcountry road networks.
  • Ability to respond to comments and questions in a timely, & appropriate manner.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid skills and qualifications in defensive driving.
  • And Candidates should at least have a Uganda Ordinary Level Certificate, plus a valid Driving license with at least class B/A.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ work experience, including a minimum of two (2) years driving/basic vehicle maintenance experience on donor-funded projects in Uganda.

Duration

  • Casual Drivers will be hired on a temporary or intermittent basis to fulfill short-term or irregular work requirements. The drivers will usually be employed to address fluctuating workloads, seasonal demands, or specific projects where the need for labour or workers is uncertain or irregular.

Ethical Standards and Safeguarding

  • The casual drivers must fully abide by AKF’s Safeguarding procedures and must sign AKF’s Safeguarding Statement of Commitment upon contracting.
