Context

Impact Santé Afrique (ISA) is a non-governmental organization based in Cameroon. Its primary aim is to enhance people’s health by developing effective and sustainable programs (for more information, please visit www.impactsante.org ). ISA seeks a full-time Regional Africa Technical Advisor for Malaria Community Engagement, Gender, and Communications as part of the “REACH” project, backed by a consortium led by PATH and funded by USAID/PMI for a potentially renewable duration of 5 years from 8th January 2024. The project aims to offer technical assistance and strengthen genuine community engagement, behaviour change communication, gender mainstreaming, and local ownership in malaria control programmes throughout Africa for an extended period.

Main mission:

The Regional Africa Technical Advisor will work under the supervision of the Executive Director of Impact Santé Afrique. His/her role is to provide technical support in developing, contextualizing, and elaborating high-impact malaria strategies and actions in behaviour change communication, advocacy, gender mainstreaming, and community engagement. This support is aimed at enhancing the fight against malaria in the countries participating in the project.

They will ensure that the project’s objectives are met through these pillars:

  • Implementing methodologies via a sub-national approach to adaptation and human-centered design (HCD).
  • Encouraging local ownership and leadership to develop robust systems.
  • Utilizing opportunities to enhance local partners and institutions to receive direct funding for leading malaria control and elimination efforts.
  • Systematize and integrate high-quality data collection and analysis at all levels to identify and meet the needs of those who have not been reached
  • Ensure that gender equality is considered during design and implementation.

Responsibilities: ensuring technical quality of interventions (communications, gender sensitivity, community participation in malaria control) to achieve a significant impact and strengthen the project’s objectives sustainably.

Specifically, the role will entail:

  • Providing technical assistance to countries in a range of activities and ensuring high-quality responses to their requests, as well as timely implementation of the project’s ISA activities.
  • Ensure the technical documents produced for the project meet the required standards, while keeping the project objectives in mind.
  • Facilitate the incorporation of gender and social inclusion in the project’s malaria programmes.
  • Oversee and extend support to the community and local stakeholders for their participation in the project’s malaria programmes.
  • Preparing for and participating in strategic and monitoring meetings at all levels of the project.
  • Any other tasks assigned by ISA within the framework of this project.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in communications, advocacy, social sciences, public health, or a related field.
  • A minimum of ten years’ experience in the indicated field of specialization.
  • At least three years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Good familiarity with malaria and its global prevention and management strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in diverse international environments;
  • Extensive experience in producing professional documentation that adheres to global standards;
  • Proficient in written and spoken English and French.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in verbal communication, engagement in debates and discussions in local or global forums
  • Expertise in teaching and mentoring teams.
