ALAMEEN is implementing projects through regional offices in Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan, Iraq, Palestine, and Somalia.
Our work sectors are Health, Nutrition, Education, Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), Protection, Shelter & Non-food items, Wash and Sanitation.
ALAMEEN also manages development projects, advocates to empower civil societies and local governance
Main Purpose
Defining, coordinating and monitoring all mental health related activities in the project area including management of staff, ensuring the quality of care and analysing statistics and reports, according to the protocols in order to provide the most appropriate support for patients
Accountabilities:
- In close collaboration with other medical team members, identifying the needs of MH support in the target population and participating in the definition, planning, organization and update of the appropriate strategy and the Mental Health (MH) activities and its budget. Monitoring and evaluating MH support activities.
- Reviewing and developing the technical materials, tools, guidelines and documents, and coordinating and ensuring the implementation of all Mental Health standard protocols and procedures set by the organization in order to provide the most appropriate treatment for patients.
- Planning and supervising, in close coordination with the HR department, the associated processes (recruitment, training/induction, briefing/debriefing, evaluation, potential detection, development and internal communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required.
- Coordinating and ensuring that Mental Health activities (in and outside health facilities), with the clients are performed with regular follow-up in order to provide the most appropriate treatment for clients with psycho social problems. Ensuring Mental Health team is calm and neutral during sessions regardless of personal feelings and/or beliefs and that the translators are trained about terminology and appropriate behavior during sessions.
- Mapping and regularly updating the existing Mental Health services, including other INGO’s, local NGO’s, community groups and governmental health services, etc. and maintaining good and regular communication and collaboration with other components of the project according to objectives and context. Identifying possible advocacy issues and informing MC and PC before taking any action. (Note: Advocacy is not under Mental Health Activities Manager accountabilities)
- Ensuring in close collaboration with medical department, that MH department participates in counselling as well as Prevention Parent to Child Transmission (PPTCT) and Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VTC) activities when needed
- Participating in monthly reports according to guidelines (SitRep, statistical report, etc.) and reporting problematic situations and cases with the Medical Coordinator to help with decision making and problem resolution.
- Ensuring that psychiatric patients coming to the facilities receive proper treatment including psychotropic medication and psychosocial support either within the program or thru referral to an appropriate resource.
AL Ameen Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
- He / she is the focal point for the medical team in the field and works in close collaboration with Supervisor MH team focal point / supervisors and MHGAP doctors and psychiatrist to ensure implementation and follow-up of Al Ameen protocols/guidelines in order to guarantee that all the patients are having the right and proper care, the confidentiality is respected and no abuse of power from our clinicians and/or counsellors.
- Coordinate, assessed and supervise the data collection to ensure that the medical data management in the project is correctly carried out in accordance with Al Ameen Health Data Protection Policy;
- Responsible of preparing the monthly roster for mental health team;
- Together with the MedRef, identify training priorities, prepare training materials, monitor tools and training sessions for the medical teams;
- Participate in the identification and implementation of specific tools in Arabic: protocols, guidelines, check lists, assessment lists, data collection tools, etc.;
- Ensure the communication channel among the team in the different location reach everyone and implement SOP in case no clear flow.
- Responsible on the coaching and mentoring the MH team ensure all the team as tools and material to be adherent on the Al Ameen protocols
- Participating on the recruitment process on HR mental needs
- Ensures the knowledge of measures to take in the case some event and accident in MH topics
- Responsible of preparing the monthly medical sitrep of Mental health activities.
- Lead the weekly mental health meetings and ensuring good follow up on all action points;
- Ensure good understanding that he/she will work with a team in a “remote management” set up, based in a neighboring country, with now some open door to make some regular visit inside;
- Participate in the mental health cluster meeting, mental health meeting at intersectional level and having regular meeting with others local and international in the area to facilitate medical operations when required;
- Participate in any medical assessment in North West Syria when requested;
- Participate actively in other relevant meetings in the project as needed.
- Share problematic situations and cases with the Med Ref/Medical Coordinator for help with decision making and problem resolution.
- In collaboration with MedRef and MedCo ensure that psychiatric patients coming to the facilities receive proper treatment including psychotropic medication and psychosocial support either within the program or through referral to an appropriate resource.
- Provide training and supervision on a regular basis.
- Ensure Counsellors are trained about terminology and appropriate behavior during sessions.
- Ensure all admitted patients and caregivers gets appropriate psychological support through continuity of care either at counselling intervention either at psychiatric intervention.

Qualifications
- Degree/master in psychology or social work or MD degree with specialization in psychiatry.
- Essential working experience of at least two years as psychologist or other similar profession
- Desirable working experience with NGOs.
- Desirable working experience in the area
- Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
