Land Life Company

Software Engineer

Boosting reforestation by using Python expertise and analytical skills to build internal software and optimize processes

Netherlands or Burgos, 32- 40 hours per week

Context

Our mission is to help restore the world’s 2 billion hectares of degraded land with sustainable approaches and disruptive technologies. We plant trees at scale across the globe to kickstart ecosystems and the communities that depend on them. We are an international, technology-driven reforestation company based in the Netherlands with local teams in Spain, the US and Australia. We work with corporations, governments and large-scale NGO’s to rebuild nature, create carbon sinks and reconnect people and the planet. We are a fast growing company and are constantly bringing new business models and climate solutions to our customers and partners.

In the 2021 planting season, we are restoring more than 4,000 hectares of land globally, planting over 4 million trees in Spain, the US, Australia and other countries. Growing at a fast rate each year, Land Life Company is becoming a global leader in ecosystem restoration.

This is the role

Our company is growing fast. To be able to sustain that growth, we need to improve some of our key internal processes and operations. This includes things like keeping track of our targets, customer demand, inventory management and the progress of our plantings.

The main responsibility of this position is to develop software that supports the processes centered around sales and inventory. In this role you act as a spider in the web: you are in contact with most of our departments, you talk to the business developers who know what information is valuable for customers, our reforestation project managers at the office and in the field who oversee the tree planting and -planning, the finance team who needs access to all of this data, and of course to the rest of the software team that will support you.

We are looking for a software engineer that enjoys talking to stakeholders and learning about their work, figuring out their needs, and then designing and implementing pragmatic solutions to solve real business problems.

You will be working primarily with Python and Django.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Software Engineer will include but will not be limited to:

  • Define application system requirements
  • Work closely with all teams within the company (commercial, operations, finance, HR)
  • Design and build solutions to automate or improve internal processes
  • Develop internal tools using Python/Django and/or other tools where necessary

Profile

For being successful in this role, you need the following::

  • Excellent programming skills in Python
  • The proven ability to make complex information and ideas understandable and approachable to others
  • 5+ years of experience building web applications with frameworks like Django/ROR/Laravel
  • Ability to produce and work according to clearly defined milestones, deliverables and work planning
  • Comfortable in working independently and have a proactive mindset
  • Interest in reforestation and nature restoration
  • Fluent in English

Next to these requirements, the following competences are an advantage

  • Experience building internal business tools
  • Background with either building or using ERP like systems
  • Experience with React/JS
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish
  • A good understanding of the Django web framework

What do we offer?

We offer a competitive salary and benefits and the opportunity for an extended contract. Our office is at a great office location near the Oosterpark in Amsterdam, where we -next to working hard- enjoy our (free) lunches and regular drinks. You get the ability to join a fast growing reforestation company with international, smart and engaged colleagues.

Process

Please submit your application (resume and cover letter) to [email protected].
