Purpose of Job

American National is seeking a predictive modeler. The modeler position is designed for individuals with a demonstrated understanding of statistics, predictive modeling, and analytical principles possessing a desire to solve business problems using predictive modeling and machine learning algorithms. The ideal candidate should have working experience with large datasets and feel comfortable communicating information to project team(s) when applicable. As a member of the P&C Research team, this individual will provide support across a variety of property and casualty lines of insurance.

Essential Functions

  • Focus on complex data retrieval and manipulation, advanced predictive modeling, and making decisions based upon the analysis
  • Represent Actuarial Services in inter-department teams, knowing when to provide answers to questions and when to bring issues to management
  • Trains less experienced analysts with spreadsheets, databases, and sources of data used in analyses
  • Manage more complicated projects, including developing methods / templates
  • Work with various departments internally

Qualifications

  • Completed 4-year degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, economics, or related field, or the equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years actuarial or statistical analysis experience; Master’s Degree in statistics or related field may be substituted for experience
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills and database knowledge preferred
  • Experience with SQL, R, SAS, Python or Emblem
  • Modeling experience is preferred but not required
  • Must possess aptitude for data manipulation and software engineering
  • Demonstrate an aptitude for business, technology, and/or project management roles

Salary for this position can range from $73,182 for candidates who are minimally qualified through $109,773 for more highly qualified candidates. Candidates outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill and education
