Fraunhofer Karriere

The Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute explores and develops innovative technologies for future mobile communication systems (5G+/6G). The mm-Wave research group focuses on radio channel measurements as well as design, simulation and implementation of communication systems in the frequency range between 6 GHz and 300 GHz. As a research associate you will support us in current research projects in developing novel radio transmission and measurement systems in the millimeter wave/sub-THz range and in expanding the 5G/6G testbed.

Be a part of our highly motivated and international research team and go on an innovation journey with us!

What You Will Do

  • Development of setups for over-the-air measurements, radio channel measurements and radio transmission experiments
  • Integration and optimization of software and hardware for mobile radio systems
  • Development and implementation of RF components for millimeter-wave and sub-THz transmission (antennas, beamforming networks)
  • Employment of the developed solutions in application-specific environments: radio channel measurement campaigns, system tests; scientific-technical analysis of the results
  • Active participation in national and international research projects including project organization and management
  • Dissemination of research results through scientific publications and presentation at conferences/workshops

What You Bring To The Table

  • A university degree (Master) in the field of electrical engineering/information technology or computer engineering with a focus on communications engineering/technology or high-frequency engineering, completed with very good grades
  • very good knowledge of mobile communications and multi-antenna transmission techniques (MIMO, beamforming)
  • Very good programming skills in Matlab, Python or C/C++
  • Very good analytical skills
  • The ability to learn new progaramming languages, APIs and frameworks
  • Experience in handling laboratory measurement equipment and experimental setups
  • Ability to work in a team coupled with a high level of motivation and initiative as well as a self-dependent and goal-oriented way of working
  • Very good knowledge of German and English, both written and spoken

Furthermore, in-depth knowledge in at least one of the following areas is desirable:

  • Implementation and programming of software-defined radios, embedded systems or the integration of SoCs and FPGAs
  • Electronic circuit development and printed circuit board design
  • Radio channel measurements and modeling

What You Can Expect

  • Attractive salary package with 30 vacation days, pension scheme (VBL), economics
  • Modern workplace in a central location
  • Very well equipped laboratories
  • Very cooperative working atmosphere in an international team
  • Flexible working hours with a shortened 39-hour week
